Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is an internationally recognised, professional training and certification program. It offers advanced, interactive therapeutic strategies for turning crisis situations into learning opportunities for children and youth with chronic patterns of self-defeating behaviours.
What LSCI Offers
LSCI views problems or stressful incidents as opportunities for learning, growth, insight, and change. This non-physical 4 day intervention program provides school leaders, classroom teachers and youth or social workers in alternative (future focused) education programs with a roadmap through conflict, using crisis as an opportunity to teach and create positive relationships with youth.
LSCI Training
LSCI is particularly suited to teachers and education staff who have the time and experience to engage in an LSCI interview with a young person who has just had an ‘incident’. It is also suited to anyone who wishes to better understand the self-defeating patterns underlying problem behaviours and learn proactive, consistent strategies to de-escalate crisis situations and promote the development of positive, supportive relationships in schools.
In this program you will learn what to do when a young person:
acts out in stress toward unsuspecting helpers, sparking explosive and endless power struggles
makes poor decisions based on distorted thought patterns and perceptual errors
has the right intentions and motivation but lacks the social skills to be successful
is purposefully aggressive and exploits others with little conscience
acts in self-damaging ways due to being burdened with shame and inadequacy
becomes entangled in destructive peer relationships and is vulnerable to manipulation.
This training is currently offered as a 4 day online training.
In a separate training (2 hours online) you can learn how to support a teacher who continually get caught in negative cycles that make things worse for students. Express interest in this training using the Express Interest button.

What do school staff say about LSCI training:
What fabulous training! I have learnt so much over the four days. I have (and will continue to) implement the LSCI process when working with students. Kellie Executive Teacher
I have already recommended that all our Executive Staff attend the next one. Very informative. I loved the neuroscience around understanding trauma and how it affects the brain. I love being able to use what we have learnt to help give me greater insight into a child's psychological world. To be able to work with them and helping them to identify with core issues in their behaviour is very exciting. I cannot wait to use the new skills I have learnt. Anthea Executive Teacher
Dave was excellent. He paced the course well and was highly responsive to the group. I really appreciated him checking in throughout the role plays, and providing timely feedback. The anecdotes and stories added to the course and enhanced my understanding of the LSCI model. Dave also used some humour to engage us in the course content. This is the most useful, and engaging PL I have been to. It is relevant to my current role, and has certainly already helped inform and improve my daily work. Kim Executive Teacher
The course was extremely helpful for my day to day duties at my school. James Learning Support Assistant
Using the reclaiming interventions will greatly improve my difficult conversations with students. The use of the Drain off and Timeline has already been put into practice to much success. Jennie Classroom Teacher
Dave was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and imparted his experience and understanding in a practical way that we could and were encouraged to take back to our settings. Sarah Executive Teacher
Dave was clear and supportive. He made the learning engaging and enjoyable. He created a great sense of security for participants to share their ideas and learning in a safe manner. Jen Executive Teacher
