Shared Reading
Sharing stories is in our DNA. That’s why it feels so healing. Stories help us relax, gather our thoughts and connect to something bigger than ourselves. Stories are shared in groups at Tuggeranong and Dickson libraries (Canberra, ACT). The stories often have themes that are universal, that we can all speak to in some way. The idea is to open up conversations that explore ourselves, each other and the world around us.

Why should organisations be trauma-informed and responsive?
A trauma-informed approach recognises and understands trauma can negatively affect families, groups, organisations and communities, as well as individuals.
A trauma-informed organisation is one that operates with an understanding of trauma and its negative effects on the organisation’s employees and the communities it serves and works to mitigate those effects. A trauma informed organisation understands that many of its employees and the people it serves have histories of trauma, that continue to play a role in their lives.
The way organisations support people during particular periods of trauma is uniquely powerful, and the ramifications are long-lasting. This is because in times of trauma, the twin concepts of institutional betrayal and psychological safety come into play.
